With a new year, comes a new Anthology blend. Our hope is that Anthology will be continually updated so that the blend is always the epitome of freshness. This iteration of Anthology leans on our new Brazilian coffee from Cerrado Mineiro. The Cascavel Vermelha, like many Brazilian coffees, is balanced, a bit nutty, and very creamy. The richness of the Brazilian coffee leads to an almond butter quality in the blend and leans the blend's sweetness toward a buttery toffee. The compliment to the Brazil in the blend is our excellent Organic Washed coffee from Max Perez in Acatenango, Guatemala. This lot is everything you could want from a washed Guatemalan coffee - medium bodied, clean, sweet, and the slightest bit fruity. When paired together, these two coffees create this balanced cup with hints of sweetness and brightness and a finish that fills your palate and lingers long into your next sip.
On Cascavel Vermelha:
Cascavel Vermelha, which in Portuguese translates to "Red Rattlesnake", is a community lot from the Cerrado Mineiro region of Brazil. This coffee was sourced with whole harvest purchasing methods, which provides more fully for producers. Sucafina, who imported this coffee, works closely with a handful of producers in Brazil in order to understand their production costs, and, in doing so, they're able to ensure that their producer partners receive the best possible rates for their coffees. This coffee is smooth and balanced with with a fully, creamy mouthfeel and a pleasant fruit sweetness reminiscent of cherries.
On Finca La Hermosa:
Our friends over at Collaborative Origins Imports, formerly known as Yepocapa Coffee, introduced our team to Max Perez this past year. We were blown away by Max's attention to detail and his excellence in producing and processing coffees. Our first coffee of Max's was his naturally processed pacamara coffee, which had taken 9th place in Guatemala's Cup of Excellence competition a few years back. He has continued to enter into the competition, and places in the top tier each harvest.
While Max can produce an excellent, unique micro-lot, he can also grow organic washed coffees with that same attention to detail and desire for excellence. This is our first year offering this organic washed coffee from Finca La Hermosa, Max's farm, and it certainly won't be our last.
Freshness in coffee turns up the volume on all of the flavors present in high quality specialty coffees. If a coffee is naturally sweet, it will almost be candy-like when it’s very recently been harvested. These two coffees bring delightful complexity into Anthology and yield a truly complex and sweet cup of coffee.
Please Note: All coffee bean orders are roasted fresh and may take 24-48 hours before shipping.
