We're excited to release this truly community centric lot from Bruselas in Southern Huila. The three producers whose coffees were blended in this lot are all members of Los Guacharos, a group of quality-focused, smallholder farmers in Bruselas. Each of these producers [Viviana Realpe, José Uribe Lasso, & Nelson Rodriguez], have voluntarily trained at the local agricultural college with a concentration in specialty coffee production.
They collectively fund consultants to advise them all on organic agricultural practices, and they even work on each other's farms -- installing water filtration systems and spraying organic fertilizers. Their strengths as individuals truly make them stronger as a collective. Each producer is an advocate for the growth and success of the other producers and each sees the collective progress of the Guacharos group as paramount to their own personal success.
More on the producers from our friends at Shared Source:
Viviana Realpe has been farming for years with her husband, Pablo. They used to process their cherries at a nearby family member's farm, but they recently invested in their own wet mill processing equipment, which has helped them to more carefully manage the processing of their coffee.
Jose Uribe Lasso and his family farm in the township of Normandía between 1750 and 1860 on their farm Finca El Diviso. His two sons Nestor and Adrian are especially active in helping him to produce coffee on their farm. The family has 7 hectares dedicated to coffee, growing numerous varieties.
Nelson Rodriguez farms in the township of Pensil, where he has close to 20,000 coffee trees. He's recently taken over the management of some of his family's plots, and he's been processing his coffee in sealed pickle barrels in low-oxygen environments.
We're so honored to partner with groups that prioritize investing in smallholder farmers, who're doing things the right way. Thanks to Shared Source, these producers are seen and known and they've being given a voice through the excellence of their coffees.
Please Note: All coffee bean orders are roasted fresh and may take 24-48 hours before shipping.
