This bright and vibrant coffee comes to us from the Kayanza Province of Burundi through our friends at Homage Coffee Source. Kayanza is home to the Umuco Washing Station, where this coffee was processed. Umuco is actually the word for light in their native language, Kirundi. They named the washing station Umuco or "light" in order to promote their desire for transparency with farmers and partners.
They're firm believers in building up their community through sustainable practices and longstanding, mutually beneficial relationships. The natural process, while riskier for producers, has the potential to bring out immense sweetness and rich, syrupy fruit notes in coffees.
Thanks in large part to Picasso, Zephyrin, Jeremie, and Noel Twagirayezu, the managers of the washing station, this coffee was clearly processed with excellence. Deep, rich fruit comes through in this coffee in the form of blackberry jam sweetness and body while delicate notes of citrus and vanilla round out the profile. We’re honored to showcase the hard work of the people of Kayanza and the diligent intentionality of Homage Coffee Source.
Please Note: All coffee bean orders are roasted fresh and may take 24-48 hours before shipping.
